Government’s role in Me Too campaign

As soon as Me Too movement gained momentum, cases of serious political stature and people involving celebrities were brought to further limelight and it costed a lot of people their career and repute. Apart from the claims, authenticity and truth behind the cases aside it is high time to think what has gone wrong. Even if for a minute, we start considering these claims false and malicious, what is it that making people level false and baseless allegations on others. In pursuit of mudslinging, why do people put their own dignity at risk, what is it that makes them ridicule themselves while bringing down others?

If for a minute, we start considering these claims true and honest, then it would be another serious issue that needs probably more attention than the former. Why is this nation getting frustrated that sexual predators are budding in every organization and now it has come to affect political parties also? A recent claim by a PTI activist is a serious allegation on Aftab Siddiqui, who recently won by-elections in Karachi. The party that is known to be a torchbearer for women is falling prey to such predators.

Government must start a mega counselling campaign, this must start from schools. We need to teach our kids the values the current generation was brought up with. Millennials are falling prey to these frustrations and the impact of west has injected aggression in the younger lot. Government with its unified strategy may hold counseling sessions not only for those who are sick but it must be taught as a basic lesson compulsory for both boys and girls. Another important thing regarding the harassment cases, we need to release the victim from burden of proof. How would a victim present evidence, this is still a question but at the same time this doesn’t mean any allegation could be enough to ruin someone’s life. It has to be dealt at government level now.
