OGDCL discovers huge oil, gas reserves in KP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s largest oil and gas exploration company, OGDCL, has discovered huge oil and gas reserves in a block near Lakki Marwat in KP. A senior Energy Ministry source told The News on Sunday that the search was being hailed as the largest in decades.

The reserves of the Vali block are considered to be equal to or greater than the reserves found in the Nishpa field. If ready, the country will be able to get 100-150 MMCFD gas, ”said the source.

When contacted, OGDCL spokesman Ahmed Hayat Luck confirmed the development, saying the company had discovered large reserves of oil and gas in the Vali block, but declined to give details.

The source added: We are currently working on a well, namely Wali-1, where OGDCL experts have found three formations including Kawagar, Hungu and Lockhart. Hangu Formation has got 11 MMCFD gas with 950 barrels per day oil and OGDCL has got 14 MMCFD gas at Lockhart which has 1000 barrels of oil per day. Oil and thus 36 MMCFD gas and a total of 2,950 barrels per day of crude oil, OGDCL will get from only three formations in Valli One. However, Valli is large in block size and seismic studies Large gas and oil reserves have been identified in the block.
