ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the 10-year-old dispute between the Thor and Harbin tribes has been settled.

Taking to his official Twitter account, the Prime Minister said the move would pave the way for the development of Diamer-Bhasha Dam, adding that the settlement would allow the dam to be completed “easily”.

The grand jirga of Diamer and Upper Kohistan elders has settled the decades-old Thor and Harbin dispute,” he wrote. “This will allow the smooth [and] timely completion of the dam and at the same time pave the way for resolving the border dispute between GB and KP.”

According to the APP correspondent in Gilgit, seven people were killed in the conflict in 2014. Later, a jirga was formed in December 2020 to resolve the territorial dispute between Harbin area of ​​Kohistan (KP) and Thor area of ​​Diamer (GB). ).

The announcement was made by the Thor Harbin Grand Jirga, which was mandated to resolve the dispute, at a function held at the Diamer Bhasha Dam project site on Tuesday. The grand jirga consisted of 13 members from Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan and Upper Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including elders and religious scholars.
