ISLAMABAD: Raja Pervez Ashraf, Speaker of the National Assembly, stated on Monday that promoting women into positions of leadership was not only a matter of fairness and justice, but also of urgency and necessity. According to him, women’s full participation in leadership positions is essential for the advancement and development of our nation because they bring special perspectives and skills to the table. At the Pakistan National Council of Arts, the NA speaker was addressing the National Convention of Women Parliamentarians. Eminent lawmakers, officials, and representatives of civil society from across the nation attended the event, which was organized by the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the National Assembly.

In order to ensure that women had equal opportunities and the support they needed to be successful in leadership roles, Pervez emphasized that it was “our responsibility to create a more inclusive and equitable society.” The Speaker of the National Assembly said, “Let us continue to work together to make this vision a reality, for the benefit of all our citizens in line with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who was a true leader of people and the epitome of women empowerment, hope for the hopeless, and a motivation to continue moving forward despite all odds and hardships.

The Speaker also commended Shahida Rehmani, Secretary of the WPC, for her dedication to advancing women’s rights and drawing attention to their contributions in national and international fora. “Ms. Rehmani’s tireless efforts to advance women’s rights are an inspiration to us all,” he said. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for her leadership for her commitment to making sure women’s voices are heard and their contributions are recognized. Rehmani echoed the Speaker’s sentiment, adding, “Women have historically been underrepresented in leadership roles, and it is critical that we keep working to change that. We must cooperate to remove obstacles that stop women from achieving their full potential in all areas of life.
